Oui Desserts

My friend and I were looking for a central cafe for high tea. We decided on Oui Desserts after reading the good reviews on Yelp. The cafe is spacious, clean, and inviting. The menu is written on a chalkboard hanging on the wall. The available pastries are neatly displayed in the covered shelf, and various cookies are contained in cookie jars. My eyes were naturally drawn to the beautifully colored macarons.

There are 13 different macaron flavors. Each macaron are sold at a different price. This concept is new to me because the cafes which I have been so far, sell their macarons at a standard price. The macarons’ price varies from $1.50 to $.175. However, Oui Desserts has a special promotion. Buy a dozen for $1 each! So I decided to get 12 macarons! This is by far the cheapest price I paid for macarons!

The macarons are petite and have bubbly surface on the cookies. I wonder why… The flavors I bought were pistachio, hazelnut, strawberry, blueberry, rose, lemon, lavender, chai, raspberry, chocolate, salted caramel, and vanilla. The only flavor I did not get was the mint chocolate as I am not a big fan of mint chocolate. The macarons are wonderful! The flavors are really good and the cookies are so crunchy. My favorite is the pistachio flavored macaron. I can’t get enough of Oui Desserts’ macarons!

Tous Les Jours

I was at H Mart shopping for my groceries when I saw a petite bakery called Tous Les Jours. The bakery sells many delicious looking breads. But what caught my eyes were the beautiful cakes and macarons! The cakes looked so creamy (not the type of cakes I like) and definitely looked appetizing. Unfortunately the bakery does not sell small slices of cakes like Tiramisu, Chocolate Cake, etc. So my eyes turned to the colorful macarons. Three new flavors were introduced to the macarons family this year. I got two of the new flavors – Black Sesame and Chai. I also bought three other flavors: Salted Caramel, Red Velvet, and Apple Pie. The macarons look so pretty, just like the picture! However, the price of each macaron is quite expensive.

Though the macaron is expensive, the taste makes up for the worth! The fillings are fantastic! The cookie is also very crispy and crunchy. Overall, the quality of the macarons is worth every penny I spent.

Dessert Gallery Bakery & Cafe

I chanced upon Dessert Gallery Bakery & Cafe when I was having dinner at Kata Robata. The cafe looks so pretty inside and it is so clean. The cafe sells beautiful cakes and the cakes look delicious. The cakes and cookies are gorgeously displayed. I was so tempted to buy a single slice of every cake! But I got to control this craziness!

Deciding what to buy from the cafe was so difficult. At last I settled for a red velvet cookie with white chocolate dip, and three macarons. I chose the caramel, vanilla bean, and cookies ‘n cream macarons.

The red velvet cookie was wonderful! It was not too sweet and every bite was just plain happiness. Great combination of red velvet and chocolate! The macarons were equally exceptional. They were all sized equally, and the fillings were delicious. I could taste the distinct flavor of each macaron. They were not too sweet and I could not get enough of them! The macarons were not as expensive as the ones I bought from other cafes, and this made the macarons so much worth eating again and again and again.

I would unquestionably go back for more macarons and I would want to buy some slices of cakes too!

Paris Sweet Pastry Shop

Today I went to search for macarons after a long hiatus as I was traveling around the world. I found Paris Sweet Pastry Shop while driving around. When I stepped into the shop, I saw many colorful macarons on display. There are so many different flavors to choose from. Flavors like mango, durian, blackcurrant, and lavender fig are sold in the shop, which is uncommon in other cafes. But while I was choosing, the lady behind the counter suggested me to get the lemon flavored macaron, and so I did.

The macarons were so good. They are so flavorful and they are absolutely worth the money. The macarons weren’t too sweet and they are addictive! I realized that different macarons are sized differently but it doesn’t matter to me. I will go back for more exotic flavored macarons!

SWEET

Do not be mistaken. SWEET is the name of the dessert shop at CityCentre.

SWEET offers a wide range of cupcakes, cakes, pastries, and macarons. It is the first dessert shop I came across in Houston that sells macarons towers. Yes, a tower of macarons! How I wish I could get a tower of macarons as a birthday “cake” instead of just a normal chocolate cake!

Getting a tower of macarons was out of the question so I purchased 8 (I started to notice a pattern. Whenever I buy macarons, it would always be in 8’s) different flavors of macarons. The flavors that I bought were: Red Velvet, Chocolate, Cookies n’ Creme, Creme Brûlée, Green Tea, Salted Caramel, Vanilla Bean, and Rose. Peanut butter was the flavor that I most wanted to try but it was out of stock! I will go back again to get that!

The macarons from SWEET were petite but the fillings were flavorful. Out of the 8 flavors which I bought, I prefer salted caramel the most. I could taste much of the salted caramel despite the sweet cookies. I would probably not get the vanilla bean macaron again because I could not taste much of it. I noticed some inconsistencies in the amount of fillings in each macaron, and the size of the cookies were inconsistent too. However, the flavors of the macarons were not greatly compromised. All in all, the macarons were great!

Ooh La La Dessert Boutique

I chanced upon Ooh La La Dessert Boutique when I was at CityCentre having dinner. The dessert shop offers indoor seating with ample space, and also outdoor seating. Ooh La La Dessert Boutique sells many different kinds of sweet treats. There is a good selection of ice cream, cupcakes, cakes, and macarons.

The macaron flavors I chosen were Chocolate, Hazelnut, Salted Caramel, Vanilla, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Raspberry,  and two other flavors which I had forgotten (oops!). The size of the macarons sold here were bigger than the ones I usually got. This was definitely a plus point for me because I prefer bigger cakes or bigger bowls of desserts at a price which is comparable to other stores that are selling smaller portion of the desserts. Not only does Ooh La La sells bigger macarons, their cakes are also sold in bigger slices.

The macarons’ cookies were not too sweet and the I could taste the flavors in the macarons. Thumbs up for having quality at an affordable price! Value for money! I would go back for their Salted Caramel macaron. I love the strong saltiness and sweetness sandwiched in the crunchy macron’s cookie.

Patisserie Paris Je T’aime

Patisserie Paris Je T’aime was the first pastry shop that I visited when I reached Houston, Texas. It is a small pastry shop with some indoor seatings and limited outdoor seatings. The shop is located in a conducive environment for afternoon high tea catch-up with friends. The selection of cakes, pastries and macarons were displayed neatly in the cake shelves. I walked to and fro several times just to be sure I did not miss out anything delicious.

After much pondering, I settled with some cakes (in another blog post) and 8 macarons. The flavors that I ordered were: Rose Jasmin Darjeeling, Peach, Hazelnut Vanilla, Caramel Apple, Passion Fruit Milk Chocolate, Green Tea Matcha, Raspberry, and Dark Chocolate. The cookies were sweet and crispy, and the fillings, other than the dark chocolate macaron, could have stronger flavors.
